Premier Wen Jiabao Concludes His Visit to Ghana

On the morning of June 19, 2006, after concluding his official visit to Ghana, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council left for the Republic of the Congo by special plane to continue his seven-African nation trip. This is the second official visit to Ghana by a premier of the Chinese State Council since former Premier Zhou Enlai visited this country in 1964.

When Premier Wen left Accra, Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor and Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Zhang Keyuan saw him off at the airport.

During his visit, Premier We held talks with Ghanaian President Kufuor and both sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation. Following the talks, Wen and Kufuor jointly attended the signing ceremony of the agreement on economic and technological cooperation between the two governments and other bilateral cooperation documents. Both sides also issued a joint communiqué. The two leaders attended the completion ceremony of Ghana road rehabilitation and expansion project built with Chinese assistance on June 19. Wen also met with the staff of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana and representatives from Chinese-funded institutions and overseas Chinese.

Ghana is the second leg of Premier Wen's current tour. He has already visited Egypt. He will also pay official visits to the Republic of the Congo, Angola, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda upon invitation.
